FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Passing of Pat Caprino

The Salem Fire Department family has suffered a great loss today. Patrick Caprino, an active duty firefighter with Salem Fire, died suddenly this morning after being transported to the hospital from his home.

Captain Caprino began his career with the Salem Fire Department in June of 1995 and was an integral member of the department.  He has served in the capacities of firefighter/paramedic, Engineer, and Captain, as well as his most recent appointment as an Acting Battalion Chief.  Captain Caprino was also highly skilled in technical rescue and was a team member and trainer in many of the department’s special rescue teams.

The fire department has assembled a team that is working with Pat’s family to provide support. Members of the department’s peer support team are also working with Salem Fire personnel during this difficult time. Chief Niblock stated “we are working to coordinate efforts, being sensitive to the needs of Pat’s grieving family.” Chief Niblock also noted that the fire department is a family and this loss is felt deeply by department personnel.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with Pat’s family” he added.

More information regarding services will be released as it becomes available.
